If you’re familiar with the bodybuilding industry, you’ll know just how lucrative it can be when you turn pro. Once you gain your IFBB pro card, the sky is the limit, as they say. For any bodybuilder that competes, whether professionally or as an amateur, your main goal should be to compete at the Olympia. For some, even that’s not enough, and the goal is to win. Winning the Mr Olympia title makes you the best bodybuilder in the world at that time. Only a select few bodybuilders can ever make this claim, including the one we’re going to be looking at today. Yes, we’ll now take a more detailed look at ‘The Prodigy’ Brandon Curry.

Who is Brandon Curry?

37-year old Brandon ‘The Prodigy’ Curry is an IFBB pro bodybuilder. He isn’t just any pro bodybuilder, though, he is the 2019, and current reigning Mr Olympia, which means that he is currently as of this writing, the best bodybuilder walking the planet. Curry stands at 5ft 7 inches in height, and weighing in off-season at around 255, and at a contest weight of around 240-pounds, he competes as a heavyweight.

Early Life

Brandon Curry was born back on the 19th of October, 1982, in Nashville Tennessee. Born and raised in Nashville, Brandon was an active child and was into his sports and fitness from a young age. When very young, his role model was the immortal Hulk Hogan. On his sixth birthday, Brandon’s parents gave him a set of children’s Hulk Hogan branded dumbbells, and he was hooked right away. Brandon has noted how, as a child, he always wanted to be big and muscular, and was inspired by the WWF wrestlers on the TV, as well as action figures such as G.I Joe, and of course, 80s action movie heroes, including Sly Stallone, as both Rambo, and Rocky. As he grew older, he became more interested in sport and played football, athletics, wrestling, as well as majoring in Exercise Science. When training for football, he enjoyed getting big and strong more than actually playing football, so he turned his attention to bodybuilding.

Life as a bodybuilder

In 2003, Brandon won his first bodybuilding contest as a light-heavyweight. He would go on to compete in various other contests, and each time he would either win, or place very high. It was clear that he was gifted in the bodybuilding department. In 2007, Brandon Curry was signed by BSN who are one of the biggest supplement companies in the world. This helped to put him on the map. One year later, he won his pro card at the NPC USA Championships and officially became an IFBB pro bodybuilder.

Winning the Olympia

In 2011, Brandon made his official debut at the Mr Olympia, finishing in a very respectable 8th place. He went on to compete in the Arnold Classic shows multiple times, picking up his first win as a pro in 2013, at the Arnold Classic Brazil. He took a year off to pack more size on, and when he returned in 2015, he was noticeably bigger. His condition wasn’t great, though, so he took another year off and worked on that. In 2017 he came back bigger, and much leaner and placed 8th at the Olympia, then 5th a year later, before finally winning the Olympia in 2019.
